Youth Program (Also known as Color Groups)

Registration information
Beginning in early January, the younger skiers (ages 5-14) meet each Saturday, forming Color Groups with similar abilities. These groups are led by volunteer coaching teams

  • 1 RED: This group for beginning skiers. The focus is learning the basic skills of skiing while having fun playing games and exploring the trails. Sometime they may even find a stuffed tiger or two hidden in the snow. Kids in this group will need classic ski equipment and generally use waxless skis.  Each skier is accompanied by a parent.
  • 2 PURPLE:  Purple skiers are usually our second year skiers.  These skiers are able to walk on skis and get up independently when they fall.  They ski further than our RED skiers but still need to learn more skills such as climbing and descending hills.  Parents are recommended to ski with their skiers but are not required.
  • 3 BLUE: Skiers in this group will have completed the 2 Purple level or are between 7-10 years old and are beginning skiers.  These skiers will be able to sidestep up hills, glide down gentle hills and use poles. This group continues to focus on classic ski technique by skiing and by playing ski games aimed at improving balance and agility.
  • 3* BLUE:  This group is for beginning skiers who are 9 years old and older.
  • 4 YELLOW:  Yellow skiers will have completed level 3 (Blue).  These are skiers who have learned classic skiing technique, have a good use of poles, and are comfortable on hills.
  • 5 GREEN: This group is known as the "learn to skate (ski)" group but they also continue to work on classic technique.  It is recommended that skiers in this group dress in layers as once they get moving a heavy winter coat is going to be too warm.  This group of skiers will need both classic and skate skis or a combination ski (called a combi-ski) which can be used for skating or classic skiing
  • 6 PINK:  The pink group will have completed level 5 (green) and have a basic understanding of skate skiing.  This group continues to work on their ski technique by doing drills, skiing and playing ski games.  They use both classic and skate ski gear
  • Thursday Tigers:  Are for yellow, green and pink skiers that want to ski more than once a week.  Coaches play ski games and other activities to work on balance and agility while having fun.  This group will meet during the week (usually Thursdays) to get in some more fun in the snow.  Members of the yellow, green and pink groups will be emailed once Thursday Tigers get underway.
