On one of the toughest courses in the Midwest, the Ski Tigers race team represented well in the Midwest/Great Lakes Junior National Qualifier this weekend. In the Saturday classic races, Mitchell Delong dominated the U16 field, finishing 30 seconds ahead of the next racer in the 5 km race. Gretchen Haggenmiller (2nd in the Middle School 3km race) and Anabel Needham (3rd place in the U14 5km race) rounded out the top 10 for the Ski Tigers. In the Sunday mass start skate race, Mitchell Delong once again finished in first place, followed closely by Ben Wood (10th place overall, 2nd in the HS division). Also finishing in the top 10 were David Jaszczak (8th place U18 division) and Tim Stone (6th place HS division). In the girl's races, Gretchen Haggenmiller once again finished on the podium, finishing 2nd overall in the 3km race (1st in the Middle School division). HOUGHTON -- Students gathered at Michigan Tech University today to learn from their heroes. Skiers from elementary age up to high school got the chance to ski alongside some professional and college athletes. Read More... The Ski Tigers boys team pulled a repeat of last year's great Mesabi performance, once again placing 4th out of 60 varsity teams from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. Mitch Delong (2nd) and Isaac Stone (18th) were the two team scorers for the varsity classic race. David Jaszczak (7th) and Ben Wood (40th) scored in the varsity skate race.
The girls team also performed well, placing 30th out of 59 varsity teams, even though they only had 3 girls (a full scoring team is 4). Sarah Lyle was the only varsity classic skier, finishing 5th place in her race. Annabel Needham (43rd) and Becca Stone (80th) both scored well in the skate race. Ski Tigers Results: |
